James Alexander Moore (his name was always thought to be William Alexander Moore) was born in 1829 in Madison Co., MS., and died before 2 Feb 1872 in Lamar Co., TX. James was the second son of Daniel and Mary McCarty Moore. He is believed to be buried in the McEwin cemetery in Lamar County in an unmarked grave. (His wife, Pamelia Maddox Moore's obituary states she was buried there and this cemetery bordered on the Moore land). He married on January 2, 1852 in Madison Co., Mississippi to Pamelia Cornelia Maddox (sister of Dr. William Ellis Maddox) on 9 Jan 1852. Family history states that many of the Moore's are buried there.
Parmelia (Pamelia) Cornelia Maddox was born about 1832 in Alabama, and died August 14, 1911 in Caviness, Lamar Co., TX. Her father has not been proven but is believed to be Benjamin Maddox who married Lucy Smith. (James Hervey Galloway, bondsman, husband of Sarah Jane Moore, sister to James Alexander Moore.)
James Alexander Moore is listed as Alex Moore in the 1860 census living in the household of Daniel Moore. He went by the names Alex and Sandy.
Family stories state that although he resided in Lamar Co., TX in the 1860 census, he returned his wife and children to MS at the outbreak of the Civil War. Birth dates and places of children during that time period appear to confirm the family stories. It appears he returned to Lamar Co. TX sometime after 1867.

2. Lucy L. Moore, b: 1853, married E. J. Miller on March 10, 1877 in Lamar Co., TX.
3. James Benjamin Moore, b: August 21, 1854 in Jackson, Hinds Co., Mississippi, d: February 9, 1925 in Caviness, Lamar Co., TX, married Lenora Jane Dewese / Deweese, (b: June 3, 1869 in Polk Co., Arkansas, m: December 3, 1885 in Paris, Lamar Co., TX, d: May 29, 1951 in Powderly, Lamar Co., TX. She was the daughter of James Sloan Dewese and Elizabeth Murphrey.
4. Fredonia "Donnie" Newell Moore, b: September 18, 1858 in Texas, d: October 13, 1931 in Paris, Lamar Co., TX, married William Dicison "Dick" McHam, (b: June 4, 1848, m: November 9, 1890 in Lamar Co., TX, d: September 13, 1931. William was the sone of Wyatt C. McHam and Elizabeth O'Shield, (O'Shan).
5. Ludia M. S. Moore, b: 1863 in MS.
6. Nannie C. Moore, b: 1867 in MS.
7. M. J. (Ermin ?) Moore, b: 1871 in Texas
Pamelia filed for a Confederate Pension from the state of Texas and it appears they turned it down because she listed his name as Sandy, not James Alexander. From Confederate Pension Application #03822, Disapproved 30 Sep 1899:

Length of Residence: 45 years Caviness, TX
State of Health: Feeble Health
Name of Soldier: Sandy Moore
Marriage Date: Madison Co., Miss 1851 [this was actually January 8, 1852]
Date of death of Soldier: 1868 [their last child was born in 1872, so we're not sure this date is correct]
Units served in: Co. G, Whitfield's Legion [the same as the 27th TX Cavalry] one year. Also served in another part of the army prior to this service.
Any other benefits recieved: None
Value of real and personal property: $300.00 in cash
Value of real property sold within last two years: 25 acres of land for $200.00
Income: $30.00 per year from loan of above cash.
Pamelia filed again shortly thereafter. Texas Confederate Pension Records show a Mrs. P. C. Moore of Lamar Co. filing for a pension. The pension was approved, file number 08385, Book 1. [Microfiche #6,019,976].
