Felix Daniel "Dan" Huff was born January 25, 1844 in Giles County, Tennessee, the son of Pinckney and Leodicia Carden Huff.
Confederate Service Record
Felix Daniel (Dan) Huff- Company G., 27th Texas Cavalry, 3rd Corporal. Felix Daniel Huff enlisted in Confederate forces on March 8, 1862, as Private by Capt. George W. Patterson for 12 months at Paris, Texas, in Capt. Ed. O. Williams' Company G., 27th Texas Cavalry (Whitefield's Legion, 1st Texas Legion) Mounted Riflemen. Paid $42.40 by G. P. Theobald for March 8 to April 30, 1862. By May or June he was 2nd Corporal, by March or April 1863, he was 3rd Corporal. He was taken prisoner at Jackson, Mississippi on May 4, 1865. Paroled May 14, 1865.
Mary Ann Huff Roland, sister of Dan, related the following: Dan returned home to Blossom Prairie, Lamar County, Texas, where he died on July 21, 1865 from tuberculosis that he had contracted in the Civil War. His two brothers, Sterling and Valentine, did not return home from the war. Sterling was killed in battle and Vol apparently died of illness during the war. Five of Dan's younger brothers and sisters contracted tuberculosis from him and died unmarried a few years following the war. Only three of the eleven children of Pinckney and Leodicia Cardin Huff survived the effects of the war. These were Sarah Elizabeth Huff Skidmore Huff, Mary Ann Huff Roland, and George W. Huff.
He died on July 21, 1865 at the home of his parents in Blossom Prairie, Lamar County, Texas. He was buried in the Old Roland Cemetery, (sometimes referred to as the Huff Cemetery) between Sylvan and Pattonville. A tombstone marks the site of his burial and gives the birth and date dates.
