This unit organized in Precinct (or Beat) No. 8 of Hopkins County Texas and filed muster roll and election returns on 17 Aug 1861. No ages or year of birth appears on the muster roll. A copy of the muster roll is located in the Texas State Archives. It states the following:
The State of Texas, Hopkins County, Beat No. 8, I, Jas. G. Hamilton enrolling officer for said beat hereby certify that the foregoing is a correct and true list of all those residing in said beat between the ages of 18 and 45 years, is also a List of officers elected at an election held in said beat on Saturday the 17th day of Aug. AD 1861.
