Robert Armistead Brocchus was born about 1835 in Lauderdale County, Alabama, the son of Dr. Benjamin M. Brocchus and Isabella G. Armistead Brocchus who were married 26 May 1834 in Loudoun County, Virginia.
Robert held the ranks of Junior 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Quartermaster, and Adjutant of Company A, Alexander's Regiment, 34th Texas Cavalry. Robert was wounded on the 8th or 9th of April 1864, at Mansfield, LA. He later died of these severe head wounds in April 1864 and should have been buried near the battlefield.
Robert married Catharine, last name unknown. She was born about 1840 in Tennessee.
Robert Armistead Brocchus was baptized at Trinity Episcopal Church in Florence, Alabama June 9, 1839. He had three brothers who also served in the CSA:
1. John Graham Brocchus - born about 1836 and died during the war. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 2nd (Walker's) Tennessee Infantry, Company E.
2. Edmund Fitzhugh Brocchus - born in 1837 and died in 1902. He served as a corporal in the 1st Confederate Cavalry, Company I.
3. Thomas Brocchus - born about 1840. He served as a corporal in the 7th (Duckworth's) Tennessee Cavalry, Company C.
