Worthington Cemetery, Lamar County, Texas
LOCATION: Worthington Cemetery is located in the southeast quadrant of the county. It is in Block 63 of the Lamar County Road Map produced by American Drafting and Services revised December 1993.
DIRECTIONS: From the caution signal in Pattonville (the intersection of Hwy 271 South and FM 196) take FM 196 south for 10.2 miles to the intersection with FM 1497. Take FM 1497 west for 2/10 miles to the intersection with CR 16560. Take CR 16560 south for 6/10 miles to the intersection with what was CR 13570. Take CR 13570 west for 7/10 miles and the road now ends at a locked pasture gate. The cemetery is in a pasture to the northwest behind a pool. GPS coordinates at the gate are 33.42879 Latitude and -95.40452 Longitude.

OLDEST KNOWN BURIAL: The oldest known grave is that of Charles Chesley Worthington who died 22 Mar 1859.
NUMBER OF GRAVES: There are 11 known graves in the cemetery. (July 2017)
SIGNS/MARKERS: There is not a sign for the cemetery.
LAST ENUMERATION: This cemetery was recorded on 7 Mar 1993, by Elizabeth House and Betsy Mills and additional information was given by Willie Devlin. It was revisited by Lawrence and Sue Dale in May 2014.
ADD'L INFORMATION: It is reported that at one time there was an old Indian Settlement where the cemetery is located and sixty-five years ago there were 30 or 40 graves. Now there are only two marked graves inside a fence that marked the Worthington family plots. The oldest inscribed grave in the cemetery is that of Charles Chesley Worthington who died 22 Mar 1859. It is reported that he came to Texas from South Carolina in 1838. When Lawrence and Sue Dale visited the cemetery in May 2014, they reported that the land in the area has all been bought by a Mr. Davis. The county road signs have been removed from CR 13570 so it is reverting to a farm lane.

The following persons are known to be buried here: Infant Brown, James Hefflefinger, Mr. & Mrs. Jackson, Art Pollard, (all the preceeding births and deaths are not known), Charles Chesley Worthington 22 Mar 1797 - 22 Mar 1859, Frances Chandler Worthington 10 Jan 1801 - 3 Feb 1864. Other names have been added by researchers.
