Old Deport Black Cemetery, Lamar County, Texas
LOCATION: Old Deport Black Cemetery is located in the southeast quadrant of the county in Block 59 of the Lamar County Road Map produced by American Drafting and Services revised December 1993.
DIRECTIONS: The cemetery is immediately north of the Old Deport Cemetery which is southeast of the town of Deport on County Road 16060 off US Highway 271.
GPS COORDINATES: 33° 31' 16.9314 N, 95° 19' 4.7994 W
(33.52137 Latitude and -95.31800 Longitude)
OLDEST KNOWN BURIAL: The oldest known grave is that of Loyd Minter who died 8 Jun 1919.
NUMBER OF GRAVES: There are 12 known graves in the cemetery, but evidence of many more. (July 2017)
SIGNS/MARKERS: There is not a state highway marker for the cemetery.

Historic Texas Cemetery: No    Texas Historical Commission Marker: No

LAST ENUMERATION: Lawrence and Sue Dale visited this cemetery on 7 Mar 2014 and found three headstones.
ADD'L INFORMATION: This cemetery was used by the local Afro-American residents and was abandoned by the late 1950's. It is now only a remembrance as there are only three known markers in place in the cemetery. From the entrance gate of Old Deport Cemetery, look north and you will see a stand of brushy trees north of the cemetery. In this area is what remains of the old site and no grave mounds can now be seen. The preceding information is from Mike Francis, Mayor of Deport, a resident of Deport all his life.
