Dennis Cemetery, Lamar County, Texas
LOCATION: Dennis Cemetery is near the community of Garretts Bluff in the northwest quadrant in Block 6 of the Lamar County Road Map produced by American Drafting and Services revised December 1993.
DIRECTIONS: The cemetery is 1.2 miles northeast from Farm Market Road 1499 near the community of Garretts Bluff. It is on County Road 35400. It is also 1/2 mile from Terrell Cemetery. Take the first road to the right north of the intersection of Farm Market Road 197 and Farm Market Road 1499. The only visible markers, those of Johnnie and Martha J. Dennis, may not be seen from the road as it is situated about 120 yards to the east at the edge of the woods. The markers were lying against trees when they were recorded on 28 Mar 1993.
GPS COORDINATES: Not available.
OLDEST KNOWN BURIAL: The oldest inscribed grave is that of Martha J. Dennis who died in 1867.
NUMBER OF GRAVES: There are 2 known graves in the cemetery. (July 2017)
SIGNS/MARKERS: There is not a state highway marker for the cemetery.
LAST ENUMERATION: Ron Brothers recorded this cemetery on 28 Mar 1993.
ADD'L INFORMATION: The only visible markers, those of Johnnie and Martha J. Dennis, may not be seen from the road as it is situated about 120 yards to the east at the edge of the woods. The markers were lying against trees when they were recorded on 28 Mar 1993. There is evidence of unmarked graves within the woods. The following persons are known to be buried here: Martha J. Baker Dennis 28 Dec 1832 - 1867 and John H. Dennis 25 Nov 1826 - Feb 1868. The graves of these early pioneers will surely be lost to posterity very soon.
