The Paris News, Dec. 11, 2012; Ellawease Cullum Basinger, 75 , of West Memphis AR, formerly of Honey Grove passed away Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at the Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel in Honey Grove with Mr. C. Emery Banker presiding. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery in the Forest Hill Community, Lamar County TX. Ellawease (Cullum) Morgan Basinger was born May 29, 1937 to George and Fannie M. Whittington Cullum in Honey Grove. Ellawease and her first husband, Sam Morgan, raised several foster children. In 1978, they moved to Indiana to be near her sister where they helped raise three special children, Larry Hewitt, John Hewitt and Lori Cypret along with her nieces and nephews. Mr. Morgan preceded her in death in 1995 and she later married Gene Basinger in 1998 and moved to Arkansas where they made their home in West Memphis. Mrs. Basinger was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Basinger was preceded in death by her first husband, Sam Morgan; four brothers, Roy, George, Bill and Lewis Cullum; four sisters, Teenie Newbury, Georgia Fort, Dorothy Wilson and Barbara Carper. She is survived by her husband, Gene of the home, two stepsons, Butch Basinger of El Dorado, AR, Gary Don and wife, Leigh Ann Bassinger of Nesbit, MS; two step daughters, Connie and husband, Dean Weddle of Louann AR, Terrie Burton of Augusta GA, three sisters, Lillian Brinegar of Mesquite, Bertha Free of Petty and Patsy Ray of Honey Grove. She is further survived by 11 step-grandchildren and 11 step great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bobby Pendergraft, Keith Cullum, Tommy Cullum, DeWayne Ray, Charles Wilson and George Newberry.
