The Paris News, Aug. 13, 2012; Gerald G. "Jerry" Bawcum, 74 of Paris, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be a 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Rosary will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug 14, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with visitation following until 8:30 p.m. Services are under the direction of Gry-Gibbs Funeral Home where online condolences may be sent by visiting www.fry & Gibbs.com. The philanthropist has served as board member for several organizations including St. Joseph's Community Foundation where he werved as chairman; Lamar County Human Resource Council; Paris Education Foundation; Lamar County Child Welfare Board; RSVP; and the former Christus St. Joseph's Health System Foundation. He volunteered his time as a mentor through the Paris Education Foundation Mentor Program, spending hours guiding young people. As an Army Veteran, he supported the Red River Valley Veteran's Memorial project. Bawcum was active at Our Lady of Vircory Catholic Church, Secretary Joan Lucas sdid he never wanted recognition for the things he did and he raised his children to be the same giving, caring individuals. "He was a regular at the church food bank," Lucas said. "He would be there pushing out grocery carts to cars in his white shirt and tie."
