THE PARIS NEWS, July 23, 2014: "D.R. “Yellow Boy” Burks passed away Monday, July 21, 2014. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 10 a.m. Thursday at Rockford Cemetery with Sammy Arche33r officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-78 p.m. today at the funeral home. D.R., the son of Robert Alvis and Ollie Bailey Burks, was born March 5, 1928 at Taylortown. On Oct. 20, 1949, he married Betty Jo Barber as they sat in a blue pickup truck in the rain while the Justice of the Peace stood outside the window under an umbrella. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Jo on March 25, 2009; brothers, Vester Burks and J.R. “Blue Boy” Burks; and sisters, Virginia Adams and Emma Dell Bratcher. He worked 20 years at B & W and he and Betty Jo owned and operated Burks Antenna & Satellite Service for 40 years. Following his retirement, he worked his cattle and farmed. He loved cutting hay and growning beans with his eldest son, Stan. D.R. was a member of Highway Full Gospel Church. Survivors include two sons, Stanley Dean Burks and wife, Ginger and Randy Paul Burks and wife, Brenda, all of Paris; grandchildren; DeLana McFadden and husband Jon, Brian K. Burks, Loren Dean Burks, Jennifer A. Stone, Chris Stone and wife Jennifer, Randy Kyle Burks andn wife Emma and Brandy Burks Rickman; great grandchildren, Kira and Julia McFadden, Rebecca K. Burks, Jesse Wayne Rickman, Samuel Paul Rickman, Kaytie Jo Rickman and Corbin Stone; one brother, Jo Bob Burks; two sisters-in-law, Jane O’Neal and Anne Barber along with numerous nieces and a host of friends. Bright-Holland Funeral Home."
