THE PARIS NEWS, Nov 13, 2011: "Marlene Burris, 71, of Powderly, passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 at Paris Regional Medical Center. The family has scheduled memorial services for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at First Christian Church with Rev. Charlotte Coyle officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home. Marlene, the daughter of Raymond D. and Lois Lillian Young was born Dec 17, 1939, in Lamar County. She worked a number of years in the insurance industry before beginning a career with Glass Investments from which she retired. Marlene was a faithful member of First Christian Church and loved the outdoors, spending time at the deer camp and rose gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepdaughter, Peggy Short; and three brothers, Wayne Young, Bill Young and Mike Pierce. Survivors include her husband, Mike Burris, two daughters, Shanna Pruitt and husband, Tom of Paris and Rene’ Vest and husband David, of Longview; two grandsons, Colton Chumbley of Paris and Alex Hagan of Longview; three stepchildren, Dale Burris and wife, Michelle of Pattonville, Annette Logan of Ft. Towson, OK and Stephen Burris and wife, Melissa of Powderly; eight step-grandchildren along with her beloved dog, Mugs. Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Christian Church, 780 20th NE, Paris TX 75460. Bright Holland is charge of services.
