Unnamed, undated newspaper: "Roy Lee Battle. Roy Lee Battle of Cooper and Dallas died Saturday afternoon, July 13th, as the result of a shooting incident that occurred in the northwest part of Cooper about 5:00 p.m. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 1980, at the Maxey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. C. D. Hilburn, pastor of Johnson Chapel CME Church, officiating. Burial was made in the Rockey Ford Cemetery in Roxton. Mr. Battle was born August 12, 1944, in Pecan Gap, a son of the late Houston and Ida Lee Hooker Battle. He attended Pecan Gap school and was an employee of Commercial Dry Wall Company in Dallas. Survivors are his wife, Cora Lee; two sons, Roy Edward Battle and Joe Alvin Battle; two daughters, Crystal Lynn Battle and Melody Lee Battle, all of Cooper, four brothers, Hardy Battle of Honey Grove, James Battle of Ladonia, Marshall Battle of Wichita, Kansas and Raymond Battle of Kansas City, Missouri; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bradley of Lawton, Okla., Mrs. Connie Sanders and Miss Mary Lois Battle, both of Paris."
