Notes

Information from Funeral Home: Lanning William Ishmael, age 95, went to be with the Jesus September 12, 2023. The youngest of five, son of Willie Johnston Ishmael Weir and Sterling Ishmael, born July 7, 1928 in Hopkins County, Shirley, Texas. Preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 64 years, Geneva (Charlene) McKee Ishmael, brothers Marvin and Melvin Ishmael, sisters, Mary Nadine Palmer, Odeal (Peggy)McDougall, and all their spouses, nephews Sterling Palmer, Jerry Ben Ishmael, Sterling (Mac)Ishmael, and niece Sandra Ishmael Pickett. He leaves behind four nieces as well as great nieces and nephews in Texas and Oklahoma all of whom loved him very much. He is also survived by Jodie Waugh, Barbara Lenoir and Robbie Armijo along with their families in Texas and Oklahoma. Lanning was active-duty Air Force serving in the Korean War from 1950 until 1954; separating as a Staff Sergeant. He made his living primarily as a rancher having had ranches in both Texas and Oklahoma. Lanning served His Savior all his adult life and shared Him with all with whom he came into contact; praying that those within his sphere of influence would come to know Jesus Christ who had changed his heart and life. Loving, knowing, and obeying Christ was the great mission of his life. Even during pain and the total loss of hearing, Lanning remained loving and kind with a generous sense of humor and a grateful heart. When he could no longer converse with others, he would quote Scripture and sing hymns and songs from his childhood. His remaining family is grateful for his life and knows he is even now experiencing an unspeakable joy that will never end. The family will have a private graveside service at Old Shirley Cemetery under the direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the upkeep of Old Shirley Cemetery via Hopkins County Courthouse, Texas.
