Notes

THE PARIS NEWS, Dec 31, 1930: "A verdict of suicide was rendered Tuesday afternooon following a coroner’s inquest on the death of C.W Brannon, grocer and meat market owner, whose body was found dangling by a rope from the rafters of his barn about 7 o’clock Tuesday morning. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church conducted by the Rev. A.L. Lusby assisted by Dr. A. F. Cunningham, pastor of the First Presbyterian church in Paris. Brannon ate breakfast with his family as usual Tuesday morning and immediately after the meal went out to the barn at the rear of the house. A few minutes later, their neighbors and members of the family heard cries issuing from the barn. When they arrived at the barn, Brannon was dead. Brannon was in an accident a few days ago in which he received a severe blow on his head among other minor injuries. Since that time, he has been confined to his home recuperating. The family stated that since his illness, Brannon had been despondent but that they thought it was only because of his inability to be out of the house. Brannon was born September 25, 1861 in Holly Springs Mississippi and had been living in Lamar County and Blossom for 28 years. For the last 12 years, he has engaged in the grocery and meat market business in Blossom. He was in business with his son, V.O. Brannon at the time of his death. He is survived by a son, K.K. Brannon and a daughter, Mrs. Charles McAline of Wichita Falls and a son, V.O. Brannon, and a daughter, Mrs. Clint Arnold of Blossom. He has one sister, Mrs. Lucy Jones of Hickory Flat, MS and two brothers, V.B. Brannon of Pine Bluff, AR, and W.J. Brannon of McGehee AR. He is also survived by 13 grand children."
