THE PARIS NEWS, Aug. 3, 2011: "Tammie Mae Berkuta 49, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at her home. A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Shelby Dickey officiating. Private burial is to be in McDonald Cemetery. The family receives friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. She was born July 21, 1962, in Paris, a daughter of Clarence Ray McCool and Myrtle Mae Thomas McCool. She graduated from Paris High School in 1980. She also completed the EMT course at Paris Junior College. She begun a career with the Social Security Administration that spanned until her retirement in 2007 due to health reasons. She lived her live in Paris except for 10 years, which she spent in Washington state. She loved her job and helping people. She was a very loving and giving person with many talents. She was a talented artist and a wonderful cook, especially her coconut pies. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kim Allen McCool; maternal grandparents, Zack and Effie Daniels Thomas; and paternal grandparents, John and Willie Ford McCool. She is survived by one brother, Tom McCool and wife Lisa, of LaVista, Neb.; three sisters, Sherry Williams and husband Johnny, of Paris, Kathy Briggs and husband Randal, of Paris, and Judy Miller and husband Chuck of Gainesville; nieces and nephews, Tracie Pickering, Lacy Eicher and husband, Nate, Jennifer Young, and husband Will, Erin Beckett, Emily Beckett, Laci Miller, Brandon Briggs and wife Ashley and Matt Miller. She also leaves a host of aunts, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. Last, but nor least, to cherish her is her beloved cat Simon. She love animals, especially cats and dogs. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lamar County Humane Society or The American Heart Association."
