Notes

Information from Ron Brothers: Jesse Wilkes Thompson was born in Dec 1830 in Tennessee and died in Aug 1914 in Lamar County and is believed to be buried in Long Cemetery in an unmarked grave along with his wife Mary Jane Calton (or Clayton) (1837-1900). Their son, William Gideon Thompson (1855-1908) is buried in a well marked grave in Long Cemetery. Jesse was living in the Powderly area of Precinct 8 in the 1910 Census. Jesse was the son of Lavina Broadway (1804–1876) and William Gideon Thompson (1802–1865). He is believed to have married about 1854 in Tennessee, though there is no record. Online family records show his wife's name both as Mary Jane Calton (1837–1900) and Mary Jane Clayton, so it is uncertain of her real surname. Together they are known to have had at least six children: 1. William Gideon (1855–1908); 2. Jesse Samuel (1867–1949); 3. Benjamin Franklin (1871–1958); 4. Joseph H. (1873–1882); 5. Edward Everett (1875–1941); and 6. Thomas Lee Thompson (1878–1955). He moved his family from Missouri to Lamar County between the 1880 and 1900 Census years. Jesse was a Confederate veteran having fought as a Corporal in Co. B, 41st Tennessee Infantry.
