THE PARIS NEWS, Thursday, November 9, 1972: “Mrs. Essie Beckham. Mrs. Essie Beckham, 543 E. Houston, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph’s Hospital. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Friday in the Lake Creek Methodist Church. Leverett and Steele Funeral Home will have charge of burial in Lake Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:30-9 o’clock tonight at the funeral home. Born Dec. 22, 1886, in York, S. C., daughter of W. T. and Lella (Berry) Smith. Her husband, Alphus M. Beckham, died in 1916. A former resident of Delta County, he had lived here the past 15 years. She was a member of the Lake Creek Methodist Church and of the Rebekah Lodge at Lake Creek. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. H. C. Young, Rt. 3, Cooper; a brother, Authur Smith of Dallas, and three grandchildren, Mrs. Margaret Sue Roling of Longview, Mrs. Joretta Wade of Dallis and Marlin Youn of Tempe, Ariz. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.”
