LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, October 31, 1985: “Jack Bankhead, 3051 Lamar Ave., died at St. Joseph's Hospital at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22. Funeral mass was celebrated Thursday Oct. 24, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Barone as celebrant. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Rosary was recited Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Bankhead was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Paris, a son of L.J. Bankhead and Kittie Gibbons Bankhead. He attended Notre Dame Academy in Paris and was a graduate of Paris High School. He attended Paris Junior College and was a graduate of East Texas State Teachers College. He had done graduate work at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Colorado. He had been associated with the Paris Junior College from 1955 until February 1985, when he retired as director of the computer center. He was a former track coach at the college, On March 27, 1947, he married Dorothy Jackson. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in World War II with the Army. Surviving are his wife; one son, L. Jack Bankhead of Waco; two grandsons, Stephen Bankhead and Jonathan Bankhead, both of Garland; five sisters, Mrs. Wayne Anderson of Paris, Mrs. Conard Florence of Ft. Worth, Mrs. Jerry Ormand of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Harry Camper of Welch, W. Va., and Mrs. James Griffin of Paris; and one brother, Eddie Bankhead of Paris.”
