THE PARIS NEWS, February 6, 2015: “Clayton E. Ballard, 69 of Paris, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015. Funeral service will be held at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Sunday with Tommy Gant officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before service from 1- 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Lake Creek Cemetery. Clayton was born July 6, 1945, in Paris, a son of A. C. and Lorene Utz Ballard. He married Brenda Speed on June 26, 1964, in Delta County. He retired from Merico Box after 20 plus years of service, then he served as a deputy sheriff with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department for 32 years. He was a member of the Cowboy Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda; children Sheila Rock, Paula Holland, Robert Ballard, Mechelle Godsey; grandchildren, Brandun Maggard, Ransun Maggard, Zachary Schmidt, James Ballard, Jerami Preston, Kimberly Pate, Kenneth Paul Preston II, Cam Preston, Robert Ballard Jr., Bennia Godsey, Oriana Godsey, Lucas Godsey; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Freddy Ballard, Kenneth Ballard, Ricky Ballard; sisters, Peggy Dickson, Brenda Gunn, Linda Ashford; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be members of the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department.” Submitted by Linda Broyles.
