Notes
The Paris Morning News, Tuesday, 30 Mar 1920, p. 5: "BURNS PROVE FATAL TO BABY AT HINCKLEY - The eight-months-old infant of John Brooks, who clerks in Charley McEwin's store at Hinckley died at 9 o'clock yesterday morning from burns which it received last Thursday evening. Its mother left it in a rocking chair in front of the fire until she could go over to Mrs. McEwin's for a minute on an errand. When she returned she heard the baby crying as she reached the gate, and rushing in the room she found it lying on the hearth, which was hot from the heat of the fire, and one hand extended over in the fire and was badly burned. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the Casey graveyard, conducted by Rev. N. C. Walters of Powderly."
Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fort Worth, Texas, Wednesday, 31 Mar 1920, Page 10: “Child Fatally Burned - PARIS, Texas, March 31—The infant of John Brooks at Hinkley died yesterday morning from burns received when it fell into a fire while its mother was out of the room.”
