DEPORT TIMES, Thursday, January 8, 1948, from microfilm in the Clarksville Library: “Residents of the entire Deport area were saddened by the death of one of Deport’s beloved twins, Mrs. John S. Bell, 87, who passed away at 4:45 a.m. Friday in East Deport where she had resided with her twin sister, Mrs. I. W. Teague. She had been in ill health for several months, becoming quite ill about a week ago. Funeral service, conducted by Dr. David A. Johnson, was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the First Presbyterian Church in Deport of which she was a member. Interment was in Detroit cemetery. Pallbearers were Lewis Jeffus, Sam Monk, Gus and Marvin Nobles, Hugh Griffin and Joe Grant. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Tom Jeffus and Mrs. Albert Jackson, Deport, and Mrs. Dick Bruton of Cleburne; one son, Fred Bell of Detroit; one stepson, Clyde Bell, Washington, D. C.; a twin sister, Mrs. Lula Teague, Deport, with whom she made her home for the past 16 years, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Deceased, the former Miss Lizzie Day, child of the late Rev. and John H. Day, was born Feb. 9, 1861 in Beech Bluff, Tenn., and came to Texas many years ago with her parents. She was married in 1883 to John S. Bell. Mr. Bell died in 1925. Among out of town relatives and friends for the funeral were: Mrs. George Barron, Clinton Barron, Mrs. Gene Barron, Mrs. Gene Day, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Day and Miss Louise Day of Tyler; Mrs. Charles Walker, Clarksville; Mrs. Mary Bryant and Miss Florence McCallister of Mt. Pleasant, Mr. and Mrs. Fate Lawson of Detroit, Mrs. Ed Lawson of San Antonio, Mrs. Will Williams and son, Bruton, Mrs. Paul Mahan and son, James of Bagwell, Dick Bruton of Cleburne, Elsie Bruton Mercer of Fort Worth, and a number from Paris and Detroit.

THE CORPUS CHRISTI CALLER-TIMES, Friday, January 2, 1948, p. 1: “Woman, 87, Dies at Twin Sister’s Home. PARIS, Texas, Jan. 2, -- Mrs. John S. Bell, 87, died in Deport Texas, today at the home of her twin sister, Mrs. Lula Teague. The sisters were believed to have been one of the oldest pair of twins in Texas.”
