THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, November 29, 1960, p. 4: “Rites Are Held For Mrs. Lon Bates Honey Grove (Spl.) - Funeral services for Mrs. Lon Bates, 77, were held at McKenzie Methodist church at 3 p.m. Sunday. She died in a Paris hospital Saturday, Nov. 26, 1960. The Rev. Walter Sullens, pastor of the church, officiated. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery with Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home directing. Survivors are two sons, Raymond Bates and Aubrey Bates, both of Honey Grove; a daughter, Mrs. John Prowse of Achille, Okla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Born July 2, 1883, in Black Springs, Ark., Mrs. Bates was the former Miss Aleena Rhoda Rowton, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rowton. She married Lon Bates July 4, 1907, and he preceded her in death in 1957. Mrs. Bates was a member of McKenzie Methodist church.”
