THE PARIS NEWS, October 12, 2011: "COOPER - Bobby Barnes, 77, of Roxton, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, in Paris. Graveside services are set for 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. in the Restland Cemetery in Roxton with Scott Gaylon officiating. Services are under the direction of the Delta Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Thursday at the cemetery. Mr. Barnes was born in Milton on Feb. 5, 1934, the son of James Nathan Barnes and Emma Rook Barnes. He graduated from Cunningham High School in 1953. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany from 1956 to 1958. Jana Shepherd and he were married on July 16, 1966, in the First Baptist Church of Cooper. He had worked for Asplundh Tree Service and the Phelps Dodge Copper Mine before starting a career with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department at Pat Mayse Lake and Maxey House. He became the first manager of the Cooper Lake State Park and retired in August 1996 after 15 years. He loved the Cowboys, Mavericks, Rangers and Roxton Lions. Hunting and fishing were his favorite pastimes, especially with his "Grands." He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: James, Hoyt "Jud," Donald Ray "Bo"; a sister: Mary Faye Barnes; and an infant sister: Vernon Maxine Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Jana Barnes, of Roxton; a son: Mickey Barnes and wife, Sharon, of Roxton; a sister, Sue King and husband, Scott, of Broadway; two grandchildren, Brody and Dalton Barnes; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Roxton VFD, the First Baptist Church of Roxton, or the Roxton School District. Online condolences may be made at www.deltafuneralhome.com.” Submitted by Linda Broyles.
