THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, April 11, 2018: “Lucien Charles Burleaud, 87, passed away early Sunday morning, April 8, 2018, from a short illness at The Home Place in Paris, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2018, in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home, with the Rev. Duane Hamil officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, in Maxey, Texas. Masons will conduct Masonic services and serve as honorary pallbearers. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Friday in the chapel. Lucien was born July 24, 1930, in Donna, Texas, to Lucien C. and Gladys Burleaud. He moved to San Diego, California, as a teenager where he attended Hoover High School, but before he graduated he asked his father to sign his papers to join the Navy in Ocober 1947, serving through the Korean War as a nuclear specialist. Leaving the Navy in 1956, he worked as a tech rep for Philco Company, Lockheed, and Sylvania Lighting. He took a break from work in 1971 to return to college at the University of New Hampshire for a Bachelors degree in economics. Once he got his diploma, he started Marlou Construction, building and remodeling houses along the New England Coast. In 1976 Lucien moved the family to Texas, purchasing a rundown cattle ranch in Northwest Lamar County. He also worked with E Systems of Greenville, leaving his family and ranch to work abroad in Israel for two years. When he returned to the United States, he went back to work with Lockheed in South Carolina, again leaving his family on the ranch. After several years, he finally found a job closer to home with Texas Instruments in Irving, until he retired in 1992, at the age of 62. At the time of his retirement, he worked full time rebuilding his cattle ranch alongside his loving wife of 56 years, Marilyn, raising Limousin cattle. Lucien had the gift of gab and shared his life experiences with anyone that took the time to listen. He traveled the world over with his work and rarely met a stranger. He was an avid reader, always eager to learn ways to improve his cattle and land. He lost his wife of 56 years in January 2007, missing her greatly until his death. He was a member of the Masons of Texas and Oklahoma for more than 62 years, Texas Shriners, Order of the Eastern Star of Texas, the Republican Club of Lamar County and a Lifetime member of the NRA. He also survived time as the Captain of the Volunteer Fire Department of Stratham, New Hampshire. Lucien is proceeded in death by his parents, Lucien Camille Burleaud and Gladys Everett Burleaud; son, Terry Lee Burleaud; sister, Andrea Burleaud Nelson; and wife, Marilyn Marie Francois Burleaud. Survivors are son, Lucian C Burleaud and wife, Martha Gonzales Burleaud; daughter, Denise Burleaud Isom and husband, Thomas C. Isom; and granddaughter, Catherine Marie Burleaud; sister, Barbara Burleaud Jones; as well as several nieces and a nephew. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital of Dallas.” Submitted by Viola Broyles.
