THE PARIS NEWS, January 15, 2015: “Virginia Nell Barrick, 79 of Sumner, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at the home of her daughter, Linda McQueen. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with, the Rev. Gordon Barnes, the Rev. Wayne Blackshear and the Rev. Lyn Holly officiating. Burial will follow in Tigertown Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Barrick, the daughter of Vernon and Lois Heltsley, was born Feb. 17, 1935, in Beech Creek, Kentucky. In 1954, she married David Barrick who made his career with the U. S. Air Force. He served our country in Korea and Vietnam. The family moved many times through the years. Wherever they were stationed Nell made their house a home. The family settled in Wichita Falls, as Nell always wanted to stay close to Shepard A.F.B. She was a loan officer at a bank in Wichita Falls for many years. Following her retirement from the bank she was a caregiver. Nell was an avid flower gardener, having won numerous awards for her home and floral landscaping while living on several Air Force Bases. During her later years she found joy from her flowers and bird watching. She was a member of Breakthrough Church. Survivors include a daughter, Linda McQueen and husband Lynn; a son, Martin Barrick and wife Gerri; grandchildren, Shanna Wilburn and husband Brent, Sam Barrick and wife Lauren, and Paige McQueen, great-grandchildren, Lila Wilburn and William Barrick. She was preceded in death by David Barrick; her parents, Vernon and Lois Heltsley; and a sister, Betty Heltsley. Casketbearers will be Sam Barrick, Brent Wilburn, Paul Puckett, Tommy Malone, Larry McQueen and John Smid. The family would like to express appreciation to Paul Puckett, P.A., her nurse, Jackie Parker, Chaplain Lyn Holly, and special caregivers, Faye Blackshear and Brenda Preston for the love and care shown to Nell.
