THE PARIS NEWS, Thursday, May 21, 1942, p. 6: “PARIS NEGRESS IS CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER FATAL SHOOTING. Charges of murder were filed Wednesday afternoon in Judge Berry A. Davis’ Justice Court against Lillian Ross, Paris Negress, as a result of the Tuesday night fatal shooting of Albert Brown, 54-year old Paris Negro. The Negro was shoot four times -- three times in the back and once in his leg, according to a report from the local funeral home where his body was taken. The shooting occurred at the Negress’ home, 185 Campbell, according to Paris Police, who investigated. The Negress Wednesday afternoon waived examining trial and her bond was set at $1,000.”
