THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, March 27, 1957, p. 9: “The funeral of Sam Thompson, 78, longtime Negro resident of Paris, will be held Thursday at 3 p. m., at Mount Canaan Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Z. D. Beamon, Ferguson Funeral Home will make burial in Fairland Cemetery. Thompson died early Tuesday in the state hospital at Terrell. He leaves a son and a daughter, Charles L. Thompson and Mrs. Marion Calloway, both of Portland, Ore., and 13 other descendants."
