THE PARIS NEWS, June 18, 2017: "Shirley Ruth Hatcher Barnett, 89 of Paris, departed this earth to join her Lord, family and friends that have departed before her on Saturday, June 17, 2017; at Brentwood Terrace. She looked forward to the open arms that await her at that Golden Gate. Funeral services will be held at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Monday, June 19, 2017, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ronald “Buddy” Barnett officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday 5-6 p.m. Shirley was born in Blossom, Texas, Jan. 1, 1927, a daughter of Wade C. and Lillie Maude Hatcher. She married Ray Vernon Barnett on March 18, 1955, in Paris. She and her husband were co-owners of the Maple Shop off the square here in Paris. She also enjoyed working at Fry & Gibbs and in the insurance business for several years. Shirley and her husband also enjoyed owning and renting several properties in Paris and Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; parents, Wade and Lillie; her brother, Sonny Hatcher; and sister, Lorene Hatcher Gross. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Gentry Howard, and husband, Dwain of Murphy, Texas; a special caring and giving sister, Linda Rodgers, of Paris; grandchildren, Kim Howard Stafford and husband, David, of Garland, and Karen Howard Hoedebeck and husband, Bill, of Rowlett; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Brandon Stafford, and Peyton and Logan Hoedebeck; niece, Kelly Rodgers Frazier and husband, Drake, and son, Barkley, of Houston; nephew, Stacy Hatcher and wife, Meliane, and their children, Logan, Ryan and Blaine, of Tigertown; nephew, Shane Hatcher and wife, Becky, and their children, Mercedes, Blayre and Acen, of Paris. Pallbearers will be Stacy Hatcher, Shane Hatcher, David Stafford and Bill Hoedebeck. Online condolences may be made by visiting fry-gibbs.com.” Submitted by Linda Broyles.
