Notes
Aug 29, 2012; Art Wendell Babb, 80 of Paris, passed away at his home on Monday, August 27, 2012. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, in Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Byers and pastor Tim Geger officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Babb was born March 3, 1932, in Lamar County to H.O. Babb and Jo9hnnie Kate Rose Babb. He shared many happy childhood memories with his eight brothers and sisters as well as many neighborhood friends. Wendell was well known for his hard work at a very young age where he started out throwing newspapers to help his family earn money. Wendell graduated from Paris High School in 1949. He married Wanda Fay Byers on Nov. 25, 1953, building over 58 years of family and memories. From this union they were blessed with three children, Travis, Jill and Wendy. Wendell served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 and later with the 49th Armored Division of the Texas National Guard. For many years, Wendell was faithful in his service to the Lord. He taught Sunday school, sang in the church and led a bus ministry. He was of the Baptist faith. Wendell was employed for many years with The Paris News as a linotype operator and he proudly held the reputation of the youngest and the last linotype operator in the newspaper business. He also worked at UARCO where he eventually retired in 1984. After retirement, he bought the Smoke House Restaurant in Reno, where he and his son worked together selling barbeque. Wendell enjoyed years spending time with his grandchildren, working his garden and doing woodwork. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Ferd Babb; and great-grandchild, Brooklyn Townsend. Survivors include his wife, Wanda; his children, Travis Hugh Babb of Paris, Jillda Kay Babb Hart and husband, David of Detroit and Wendy Gail Babb McNeal and husband, Marc of Paris; grandchildren, Corey Townsend of Paris, Brittney Whitley and husband, Collin of Reno, Blake McNeal of Paris and Jacob McNeal of Paris; one great-grand-child, Hayden Townsend; siblings, H.O. Babb Jr. and wife, Jo of Haltom City, Donita Poteet of Texarkana, Rose Holcomb of Pittsburg. Danny Babb and wife Edwina of Tomball, David Babb and wife Carolyn of Duncanville, James Babb and wife, Darenda of Paris and Mary Goodman and husband, Wayne of Texarkana; one sister-in-law, Ruth Babb of Paris along with numerous nieces, nephew and a host of friends.
