THE PARIS NEWS, Dec. 28, 2010: “CLARKSVILLE, John Edmond Townes, 88, of Clarksville died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Regency Healthcare and Rehab Center in Paris. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, in Lindeman Chapel of Clarksville Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Shovan and the Rev. James Brown officiating. Burial is to follow in Lanes Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family is to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He born July 24, 1922, in Red River County, the son of Jack and Lucy Foshee Townes. He married Dorothy Cremeen on March 11, 1941, and was a member of Lanes Chapel Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Townes; and a brother, Billy Jack Townes. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cremeen Townes, of Clarksville; a son, Gerald Townes and wife, Elaine, of Clarksville; three daughters, Sue Giddens and husband, Jim, of Paris, Barbara Gibbs of Forney and Annette Brown and husband, Clifton, of Clarksville; a daughter-in-law, Donna Townes Smith, of Clarksville; two sisters, Marie Massey of Fulbright and Ruth McIntire of Bagwell; one brother, Larry Townes, of Detroit; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Named as pallbearers are Gary Townes, Shane Joplin, Michael Townes, Johnny McGuire, Wesley Giddens and Rick Jordan. Honorary pallbearers are Cole Phelps, Bobby Hevron, James Giddens, Charlie Townes and Dean Hall. Memorials may be made in his name to the Lanes Chapel Cemetery fund at 1736 FR 3390, Clarksville, Texas 75426. Online condolences may be made to the Townes family at www.clarksvillefuneralhome.com.”
