THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, May 15, 2016, page A3: “J. B. ‘Beadum’ Bankhead of Paris, Texas, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 12, 2016. The family will receive friends during visitation at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home on Sunday, May 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The service will be held on Monday, May 16, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. There will be a private graveside service. He was born on Jan. 27, 1931, in Bridgeport, Texas to Johnny B. Bankhead and Ruby Carmen Phillips. On April 3, 1953, he married Doris Ann Cass. J.B. was a banker for the majority of his professional life. He was with Liberty National Bank for almost 20 years, leaving in 1979 to accept the position of president of Paris Savings and Loan. In 1983, he was offered the position of president of Lamar National Bank. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1996. After retirement from daily service, he continued on with the bank as a director of the board and resigned in January 2016 from his position as chairman of the board. During his 85 years, J.B. Bankhead served his community and church at both the local and state levels. He was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club and served as President in 1963. He was member of the Chamber of Commerce, Paris Independent School District Board, McCuistion Hospital Board of Governors, Paris Economic Development Board, Paris Housing Authority, Gordon County Club, Boys and Girls Club and was a founding member of the Dolphin Swim Club. He also served on the Texas Independent Bank Board of Directors for six years. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Paris. He served the church as Treasurer for many years, as well as serving on numerous other committees as needed. He also taught Sunday school for many years. He was on the board of directors of the Baptist Church Loan Corporation for five years and served as chairman in 1988. He was on the Long Range Emphasis Planning Committee for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Beadum was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny B. and Ruby Bankhead; and his siblings, Murray Bankhead, Margie Bankhead Lee, Johnny Ray Bankhead and Ruby Faye Bankhead Mason. He is survived by his wife, Doris Ann Cass Bankhead; his sister, Betty Bankhead Kennedy; his children, Brad Bankhead of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Beth Edwards and husband Dan of Paris, Lori Bankhead of Paris, and Jennifer Sanders and husband Tony of Paris. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Jay Bankhead and Zach Bankhead of Cocoa Beach, Florida, Caleb Bankhead of Melbourne, Florida, Nikki Bankhead Collier and husband Ryan of New York City, New York, Addison Bankhead Fountain and husband Danny of Lexington, South Carolina, Cassie Edwards Jackson and husband Russell of Paris, Rachel Edwards Ressler and husband Casey of Paris, Aaron Edwards and wife Melissa of Denton, Bridger, Allie, Beth and Connor Gottshalk of Paris, Blake Sanders, Drew Sanders and wife Brittany, Annelise Sanders and Tyler Sanders of Paris. He is also survived by his childhood friend and lifelong travel and adventure partner, A.D. Thompson and his wife Helen of Paris, and a very special honorary grandson, Jaylen Smith of Paris. He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. Beadum Bankhead lived a life of service and adventure and he will be deeply missed. His fighting spirit, love for God, his family, the mountains, camping, motorcycles and good conversation will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.” Submitted by Mary Tallant.
