Notes
THE PARIS NEWS, Wednesday, June 1, 2016, page 3: “Ruth Aileen Wagner Burke, 85 of Paris, left this life for life eternal Monday, May 30, 2016, at Brentwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the Pattonville Church of Christ, with David Ballard and Bob Baker officiating. Interment will follow the service in Meadowbrook Gardens Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Ruth was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Pocahontas, Randolph County, Arkansas, the sixth of seven children born to Charlie and Irene Sutton Wagner. Losing her father at a very early age, she and her six siblings were raised under the loving care of their mother during very hard times. Ruth learned well the value of work, and the giving of an honest day’s effort to her employer. She worked for Nahas, Inc., then Hollywood Vasserette, and finally for Munsingwear, from whence she retired. She enjoyed over 25 years of retirement, but filled each moment of her life with extra effort. Adept with her hands, she spent countless hours making beautiful quilts for Dolores Yoder. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and word puzzles of every sort. She was a caregiver of sorts to all whom she loved, including her feline friends, who held a special place in her heart. Ruth was known for her good cooking and her ability to share, as demonstrated in the many Friendship Cakes she shared with others throughout the years. Above all, she loved her family and her Lord, and always tried to put others first. She married the love of her life, LeRoy Burke, on March 8, 1971, in Clarksville, and they made their home in Pattonville. LeRoy preceded her in death on June 30, 1996, and part of her heart went with him. Upon her marriage to LeRoy, she acquired a step-son, Jim Burke, who preceded her in death; and a step-daughter, Jinx Burke Yoder, who loved her as her mother. She was also preceded in death by all six of her siblings, Thelma Mae Leathers, Thurma Lee “Billie” Sisson, Thursa Jewell “Jody” Seagroves, Helen Charlene Barnett, William Dorvin Wagner, and Mona Jean Bryant. Survivors include her step-daughter, Jinx Yoder and husband Lyle, of Paris; a granddaughter, Corbi Yoder Fox and husband Alan, of Paris; a great-granddaughter, Bralie Fox, of Paris; and several nieces and nephews who live in Arkansas. Named to serve as pallbearers are Kenny Backus, Scott Adams, Larry Gibson, Brad Bassano, Alan Fox and John VanDerSchaaf.”
