Notes
THE PARIS NEWS, Thursday, June 10, 1943: “Pfc. Cecil B. Ivester, 19,
of the 87th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop, Camp McCain, Miss., died at
2:55 p.m. Wednesday at the Sanitarium of Paris of injuries received
when his motorcycle struck a mailbox post Wednesday morning half a
mile east of Honey Grove. Ivester was going to his home at Dumas on
furlough and was trying to fix the exhaust pipe on his motorcycle,
according to a witness. He had slowed down and was bending over, when
the machine struck the mailbox. The accident occurred about 7:20 a.m.
Nearest of kin is Thelma M. Ivester, but the public relations office
at Camp Maxey had not been informed what her relationship is. The body
was to be sent to Dumas for burial. Roy W. Taylor of 1206 East 14th
St., Honey Grove, reported the accident. Ivester’s body was to leave
here Thursday at 4 p.m. on the Santa Fe train, being shipped by Brown-
Roden Funeral Home to Amarillo for burial. His father is Cecil B.
Ivester, Sr., of Amarillo.” Submitted by Carol Campbell.
