THE PARIS NEWS, Oct. 25, 2009: “Wanda Brockway, 75, of Paris passed from this life Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Paris Regional Medical Center after a battle with cancer. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with Elder Harley Stripland and Elder Jimmy Stripland officiating. Interment follows at Evergreen Cemetery. The family receives friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the funeral home. At other times, the family is to be at 540 14th N.E. She was born July 12, 1934, in Dodd City, to the late Henry and Macle Smith. She attended schools in Paris and was a member of Primitive Baptist Church. On Feb. 22, 1952, she met the love of her life, Vernon Brockway. They were married in Texarkana, Ark. They were married 47 years until his death on June 6, 1999. She devoted herself to her family and church. She was a stay-at-home mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Brockway; daughters, Debra Lynn Brockway and Belinda Holtzclaw; sons, Larry Brockway and Bobby Brockway; sisters, Ola Fay Hastings and Wilma Ward. She is survived by her children, Danny Brockway and wife, Teresa, Patricia Story and husband, Roy, Nita Hollje and husband, Keith, Kay Lawler and husband, Ocie, David Brockway and Terry Brockway; grandchildren, Dana Swafford, April Brockway, Joni Dake, Shalisha Hines, Hunter Hollje, Shawn Boutwell, Cody Lawler, Trevor Upchurch, Kourtniee Johnson, Stephen Brockway, Lois Brockway, Brandon Brockway and Ashley Farley; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Summers and Gladys Nigo; and brothers, Henry Smith and Joe Smith. Serving as pallbearers are Shawn Boutwell, Cody Lawler, Ryley Brockway, Neal Swafford, Rynn Johnson and Chris Parks. Mom, you were not just a mother, a wife, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother. You were a best friend. We can’t say goodbye, so we’ll say until we meet again. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Elder Harley Stripland, 1108 CR 44400, Powderly, TX 75473.
