THE PARIS NEWS, Oct. 28, 2009: “Robert Raymond Bassett, 91, of Paris died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Brentwood Terrace. Following cremation, arrangements by Starrett Funeral Home, a memorial service is to be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal with Father Terry Germann as celebrant. His cremains will be inurned beside his wife, Marie, in the Holy Cross Columbarium. He was born Oct. 31, 1917, in Brea, Calif., a son of Ernest and Louise Tapia Bassett. He served in the U.S. Army, and then retired from the utility department of the City of South Gate, Calif. He was a former member of B.P.O.E., and a 32nd Degree Mason. He married his most recent spouse, Marie Weller, Feb. 13, 1978, in Downey, Calif. She preceded him in death Sept. 17, 2006. Others preceding him in death were his daughter, Diane Bassett Espinosa; a great-grandchild, Melissa Zwifel; and three brothers, James, Ernest and Carl Bassett. Survivors include his two daughters, Cathleen Connell of Paris and Rose Marie Dinkelbach of Placer, Calif.; a son, Mark Tighe and wife, Ingrid, of Ramona, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family requests memorial contributions to the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, TX 75219.
