Notes

THE PARIS NEWS, Aug. 30, 2009: “Michael Ross Ballard, 55, of Paris passed from this life Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at his residence. Memorial services in honor of his life are set for 11 a.m. Monday, Aug, 31, in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home with Rev. Van Lazaroff officiating. Following cremation arrangements, his remains are to be inurned in the DFW National Cemetery. Friends may greet the family for one hour prior to the service. He was born Jan. 14, 1954, in San Diego, Calif. He was a graduate of California schools, then moved to Paris in the early 1980s, working for Babcock & Wilcox, then at Campbell’s Soup Company, where he became a leader mechanic. He retired from Campbell’s Soup in 2009, after 20 years of service. He was an avid motorcyclist and loved nature and animals, especially his dog, Chopper. From a young age, he was a talented handyman and could repair most anything. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry and Greg; and by his stepfather, Ronald Lee Smeltzer. He is survived by a daughter, Dawn Hardin and husband, Dave, of Dubuque, Iowa; a granddaughter, Renee Hardin; his mother, Jean Smeltzer, of Denton; and his father, James Ballard and wife, Alberta, of Sacramento, Calif. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to Christians in Action or to the charity of one’s choice. Friends may register in Mike’s Book of Memories at www.starrettfunerals.com.”
