THE PARIS NEWS, Mar. 30, 2009: “GREENVILLE, Walter Selman ‘Sonny’ Bridges, 78, of Greenville died Friday, March 27, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Westview United Methodist Church under the direction of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, 5100 Interstate 30, Greenville, TX. with the Rev. Brian Bosworth and the Rev. Louise Banner Welch officiating. Graveside services follow at 2:30 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Paris. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. He was born Sept. 17, 1930, in Paris, the son of Arthur Selman and Ava Lynn Grant Bridges. He graduated from Paris High School in 1948. He married JoAnn Seale on Aug. 4, 1951, in Kerens. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1986 after 38 years of service in the plant department. He was a member of the AT&T Pioneers, Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout. He was also a member of the National Guard and United States Army as well as Westview United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother in 1927. Surviving are his wife, JoAnn Bridges of Greenville; daughter, Julie Bridges Ronck and husband, David, of Dallas; sister, Helen Jean Bankhead of Dallas; grandchildren, Emily Ronck and Andrew Ronck, both of Dallas; niece, Kay French of Odessa; aGuBenjie Bryant, Jim French, Bill Goodman and Don Marshall. Honorary pallbearers are James Bland, Wendell Jeter, Tom Melugin, Dr. James Nicholson, Neal Parrott, Andrew Ronck, Dr. Wynne Snoots and Gene Woodall. If desired, memorials may be made to Westview United Methodist Church, 6407 Sayle St., Greenville, TX., 75402 or to VistaCare Hospice, 2824 Terrell Rd., Suite 500, Greenville, TX 75402.
