THE PARIS NEWS, Jan. 18, 2009: “Ruth E. Ball, 80, of Paris passed from this life Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home with Dr. L. C. Stout officiating. Interment follows in Evergreen Cemetery. She attended Paris schools and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She spent her life as a homemaker, involving herself to the fullest in her children’s lives at school, serving actively in the PTA and in many functions. As life went on, her love and attention turned to her grandchildren. She loved to quilt, and spent many hours making items for the Lord’s Acre auction at her church. For many years she served as election judge in the Minter community. She was a woman of quiet strength, and lived for others through her giving and loving. She married John David ‘Shorty’ Ball on Dec. 13, 1950, in Paris. He preceded her in death on Christmas Eve, 2001. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters. Survivors include three children, Paul I. ‘Butch’ Yates and wife, Shirley, of Detroit, Ruth Ann Jones and husband, Roy, of Minter, and Col. John Ball (Ret.) and wife, Wyn, of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Joanna Pitcock of Deport, David Yates of Dublin, Calif., Mark Keys of Paris, John Paul Yates of Springfield, Ga., Jessie Meredith of Spring and Karla Ball of San Antonio; six great-grandchildren, Mitchell Pitcock, Jacey Pitcock, Kaitlyn Yates, Kolton Yates, Sarah Yates and Gaby Keys; one great-great-grandchild, Gage Pitcock; a sister-in-law, Bobbie Ruth Hulsey, of Reno; and several nieces and nephews.
