THE PARIS NEWS, July 15, 2008: “Billie Jo Browning, 81, of Katy, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at Hermann Memorial Southwest Hospital in Houston. Starrett Funeral Home conducts graveside rites at 11 a.m. Thursday July 17, at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Rev. Randall Scott officiating. Following a visitation in Katy on Monday evening, the family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Starrett Funeral Home. She was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Paris, a daughter of the Rev. Elmer and Ruth Marie Medlock Dicken. She was of the Baptist faith. A graduate of Paris High School, she spent her early years working as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. Her preferred and longtime job was that of wife and mother and her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved to dance. She married Martin Browning on Sept. 18, 1949, in Paris. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Ronnie Joe Browning; a sister, Emma Frances Rosenthal; and a brother, Robert Arthur Dicken. Survivors include her husband Martin; a son, Rick Browning and wife, Patricia, of Paris; two daughters, Teresa Palmer and husband, David, of Houston and Alisa Thompson of Katy; six grandchildren, Tyler Browning, Jason Browning and Wendy Chandler, all of Paris, Sophie Palmer, of Houston, Kyle Thompson and Katie Thompson, both of Katy; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Browning and Dylan Chandler, both of Paris; and a brother, Harold Dicken, of Arkansas. Named as pallbearers are Kyle Thompson, Richard Estes, Jason Browning, Tyler Browning, Shane McDowra and David Palmer. Friends may register in Billie’s Book of Memories at www.starrettfunerals.com.”
