THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 23, 2008: "Claudia D. Irwin, 53, of Powderly, passed away holding her husband's hand on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at her home in Powderly from pancreatic cancer. Cremation was arranged by Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home, and a memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Lightfoot Bldg., 12 1st Street N.E. She was born Jan. 19, 1955, in Euclid, Ohio, to H. K. and Lucille Dempsey Davidson. She graduated from Euclid High School in 1973 and received a Bachelor of Science in History and Political Science from Oklahoma City University in 1977. She married her kindred spirit, Mike Irwin, on April 30, 1981, in Oklahoma City. Always passionate about history, she earned a Masters of Liberal Studies with Museum Emphasis in 1988 from the University of Oklahoma. While her husband was stationed in Idaho, she helped found a small historical museum in Rigby, Idaho. In the 1990s, while living in the Dallas area, she earned a teaching certificate, and taught elementary school in Cedar Hill and Midlothian. She moved with her family to Powderly in 2000, and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May of 2003. Despite several surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, she joined the staff of Paris Regional Medical Center in November of 2004 as a project specialist in cancer education, and for more than two and a half years enjoyed educating schools, churches, and local civic groups in skin and colon cancer prevention. She left Paris Regional Medical Center in August of 2007, when her grant-funded position ended, and was able to enjoy several wonderful trips with her sisters, her niece, her daughter, her husband and sons, and several friends. She touched the lives of everyone she met with her love, her strength, and her friendship. Survivors include her husband, Mike Irwin of Powderly; her daughter, Sierra Irwin of Seabrook; her son, Jed Irwin at Texas Tech in Lubbock; her son, Luke Irwin at the University of Texas in Austin; her father H.
