THE PARIS NEWS, Sept. 12, 2007: "HONEY GROVE, Thelma Garner Black, 90, long time resident of Honey Grove died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, in Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman. Services are to be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at McKenzie United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Masterson of San Antonio and the Rev. Ann Barton officiating. Burial follows in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home. The family receives visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. She was born on Oct. 11, 1916, in Cooper, to James Alfred and Maudie Brookmole Garner. She graduated from Cooper High School and worked for the Fannin County Clerk's Office prior to her marriage to John Benjamin Black on Sept. 16, 1945. Together they owned and operated Honey Grove Insurance Agency for almost 40 years. They enjoyed collecting antiques and vintage automobiles and preserving the history of Honey Grove. They were members of the Antique Auto Club of North Texas and charter members of the Friends of Sam Rayburn. The Black's were also stewards of Fannin County land and received the Texas Department of Agriculture 'Texas Century Farm' designation for 100 years of continuous operation of their farm. After her husband's death in 1983, she published 'John Black's Pictorial History of Honey Grove,' which received the Texas Historical Commission T. R. Fehrenbach Award for Community History Publication in 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Aubrey Garner, and special friend, Minnie Jones. She is survived by her son, Walcott Garner Black and his wife, Ann, of Sherman; a sister-in-law, Raye Black of Duncanville; a niece, Ann Black Masterson of Houston, and nephews John Black of Russia and Robert Black of Colorado. Pallbearers are Joseph Reed, Wesley Reed, Dr. John Reed, Raymond Foster, Dr. John Brakebill, Arthur Nelson and Tom Stevens. If desired, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County, 505 W. Center, Sherman, TX. 75090, or Oakwood Cemetery Association, P.O.
