THE PARIS NEWS, Mar. 14, 2008: "Curtis Lee Blackshear Sr., 87, a hard working man who loved his family and friends, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with the Rev. Jonathan Gray and the Rev. Doug Holt officiating. Burial follows in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Blackshear, the son of Charlie and Maggie Jackson Blackshear, was born Sept. 4, 1920, in Tioga, Grayson County. In his early years he was a farmer and worked in the west Texas oil fields. When he came back to Lamar County he continued to farm and began a career at B&W that spanned 30 years. He served in the United States Army at the end of World War II, and was a member of the Cottonwood Church of God. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Brown Blackshear; his parents; two brothers, R. B. Blackshear, and the Rev. Joe Blackshear, and a sister, Earnestine Hindman. Survivors include his wife, Mary Hollowell Blackshear; four children, Sammie Blackshear Porter, and husband, Ross, of Powderly, Rose Newhouse, and husband, David, of Honey Grove, Curtis Blackshear Jr., and wife, Anita, of Sumner, and Gerry Blackshear, and wife, Vicki, of Frisco; nine grandchildren, Keith Porter, Bradley Porter, Sharon Baucum, Hannah Kennedy, Britta Foote, Sam Newhouse, Angie Ary, Jessica Huprich, and Rhett Blackshear; 17 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Junior Blackshear, Wayne Blackshear, and Paul David Blackshear; one sister, Wanza Lou Offutt, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Honey Grove Nursing Center staff and the staff of Mays Hospice. If desired, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., P. O.
