THE PARIS NEWS, May 14, 2007, By Bill Hankins: “Child drowns in farm pool -- A Mother’s Day tragedy took the life of 5-year-old Ashantay Gray Bouchon, who drowned in a farm pool shortly after noon Sunday. The child’s mother, Taneesha Gray, is a dispatcher with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department and was on duty when the drowning occurred. The drowning was in a pool behind a residence off Farm to Market 1510 in Lamar County. It was the home of the child’s great-grandmother, who kept Gray’s three children every weekend while the mother worked. Sheriff’s deputies said the child’s grandmother was shredding a field and the great-grandmother was working in the home when they first missed the 5-year-old. After a short search, they called for emergency help and the great-grandmother found the child’s blue flip-flop on a dock at the pond. Nearby neighbors were called in to search the pond, and first responders and EMS arrived at the scene along with Sheriff’s department personnel. The body of the child was located shortly before 2 p.m. Sunday, and attempts to administer CPR failed to revive the girl. She was pronounced dead at 2:55 p.m. at Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are pending at Bright-Holland Funeral Home.”
