THE PARIS NEWS, Mar. 11, 2008: "DEPORT, Joe Sam Ballard, 65, of Deport died Monday, March 10, 2008, in Paris Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services have been scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at New Beginnings Church in Bogata. Burial follows in Highland Cemetery in Deport. Wood Funeral Homes, Deport have charge of arrangements. The family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He was born Sept. 12, 1942, in Lamar County, the son of L. C. 'Shorty' and Flossie Marie Upchurch Ballard. He married the former Lynda Doolin, Feb. 16, 1963, in Delta County. He retired from B&W in 1992, and was a member of New Beginnings Church in Bogata. He was preceded in death by his mother, Feb. 15, 1994; his father, Oct. 4, 2003; and an infant brother, Loyd Wayne Ballard. He is survived by his wife, Lynda, of Deport; his children, Barry Ballard, and wife, Connie, of Cooper, Jalynda Mitchell, and husband, Carl, of Deport, Lee Ann Regan, and husband, Mike, of Pattonville, and Joel Ballard and wife, Shirley, of Longview; one brother, Jack Ballard, and wife, Glenda, of Texarkana; niece and nephew, Jordan Ballard, of Austin and Marlena Hensarling, of Houston; grandchildren, Emily, Christopher, and Michael Ballard, of Cooper, Dakota, Danbri and Jaylan Mitchell, of Deport, Megan Graham, Kalee Graham, and Sydney and Skylar Regan, of Pattonville, and Anthony, Mathew, Easton and Jolie Ballard, of Longview. Serving as pallbearers will be Dakota Mitchell, Christopher Ballard, Michael Ballard, Anthony Ballard, Mathew Ballard and Jordan Ballard."
