THE PARIS NEWS, May 11, 2007: "BOGATA, Phillip L. Brooks, 90, formerly of Cuthand died Wednesday, May 9, 2007, in Mount Pleasant. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in Cuthand United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Purviance officiating. Burial follows in Cuthand Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, Bogata. The family receives friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. He was born March 11, 1917, in Red River County, the son of Lucian and Pearl Phillips Brooks. He married the former Roberta McCain on Nov. 29, 1943, in Clarksville. She preceded him in death Oct. 24, 2005. He was a retired farmer and rancher and a long-time member of Cuthand United Methodist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Shannon Brooks; a sister, Wanza Lum and his parents. He is survived by three sons, Phillip L. Brooks Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Longview, John Brooks and wife, Connie Kay, of Bogata and Joe Brooks and wife, Gannice, of Florida; a daughter, Margaret 'Cookie' Foster of Mount Pleasant; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren."
