THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 27, 2006: "GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla., Boyd W. Betterton, 67, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006. Funeral services officiated by Associate Lay Pastor Bill Hogg were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Church of the Nazarene in Orange Park, Fla. Arrangements were under the care of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, Fla. 904-284-4000. He was born June 2, 1939, in Deport, to Joe Lee and Edna Mae Betterton. He moved to the Jacksonville area 13 years ago. Following his honorable service in The U.S. Navy, he began a career in law enforcement, and worked at every level including city, county, state, and federal. He was a Protestant and a longtime Shriner, a devoted husband and father. He was often affectionately referred to as 'The Candy Man' and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother; father; and sister, Jodelle Cooper. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, June M. Betterton; six sons, Kelly Betterton and wife, Sonya, of Brownfield, Kyle Betterton and wife, Terri, of Palestine, Kraig Betterton and wife, Cassandra, of Cooper, Dwayne Betterton of Jacksonville, Fla., Brian Betterton of Dallas, and Thomas Betterton of Orange Park, Fla.; one daughter, Ann Howard of Houston; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
