THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 19, 2006: "CLARKSVILLE, Fannie Mae Tharp, a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, at Reunion Plaza Nursing Center in Texarkana. She was a lifetime resident of Red River County, and resided in Annona. She has been a dedicated member of First Baptist Church for the past 60 years. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at First Baptist Church in Annona with the Rev. Sean Garden officiating. Burial follows in Savannah Cemetery under the direction of Clarksville Funeral Home. The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. She was born July 11, 1920, in Red River County, to Oscar and Rena Tucker. She was a 60-year resident of Annona and was employed as a nurse at Red River General Hospital for the 13 years prior to her retirement. She was a devoted church member, and her Christian faith was evident in the way she lived her life. She was well-known for the kind, compassionate care she gave while working as a nurse, a job she loved. She also loved to cook and to sew, and excelled at both. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. She never met a stranger and was a kind and generous friend to all she encountered. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Oscar and Rena Tucker; her husband, Thomas J. Tharp; a granddaughter, Lisa K. McKinney; and six brothers, Alfred, Perry, Willie, Bennie, Willard and E. J. Tucker. She is survived by four children, Dorothy Ann Pound of New Boston, Barbara Jo Lann of Fort Worth, David Mikel Tharp of Annona, Tommie Jan Sheets of Weatherford; and two sisters, Dovie Baird of Annona and Maggie Felts of Denison. She was blessed with nine surviving grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren."
