THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 12, 2006: "Bob E. Blankenship, 74, of Paris died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, in Paris Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained earlier that morning in a bicycling accident. Bright-Holland Funeral Home conducts graveside services at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Rose Hill-Ector County Cemetery in Odessa. The Rev. Ben Hubert, pastor of First Christian Church, San Angelo, is to officiate. The family will be at their residence. Blankenship, a loving father, was born Jan. 4, 1932, in Corsicana, a son of Ollie and Marjorie Evalon Swearingen Blankenship. He attended public schools in Odessa, Odessa Junior College, and University of Texas. He married Beth Calloway on Dec. 21, 1950, in Odessa. She preceded him in death in 2000. On May 8, 2005, he married Linda Weatherall Hodges in San Angelo. They moved to Paris in October 2006. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Following discharge he served as county auditor for Tom Green County from May 1968 to May 1972. He owned a skating rink in Odessa for more than 20 years until retiring. He did volunteer work at San Angelo Baptist Memorial's Nursing Home and Retirement Center, and at an adult day care center. He also enjoyed singing at nursing homes and church. He was a pilot and loved to fly. His hobbies also included bicycling, and he rode 20 miles each day. He was a member of First Christian Church of San Angelo. Surviving are his wife, Linda of Paris; two sons, Vince Blankenship of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Derek Blankenship and wife, Denise, of Cedar Hill; a daughter, Karla Fletcher and husband, Larry, of Spring; four grandchildren, Jason Fletcher and wife, Erin, of Dallas, Miles Fletcher and Neely Fletcher, both of Spring, and Seth Blankenship and wife, Mollie, of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Dan Blankenship, of Midland; stepchildren, Jeanna McIntosh and husband, Kirk of Mena, Ark., and Kay Boutelle and husband, Ron, of Canyon Lake; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandson.
