THE PARIS NEWS, Sep. 28, 2006: “James O. Bettis, 66, of Paris passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at Paris Regional Medical Center. Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, in Fry-Gibbs Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Fortenberry and Rev. Bill Felts officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with Roger Edelhauser, John Lovett, Royce Vickers, Clayton Carlow, Bobby McCarrell, Roger Stripland, and Dale Conrad serving as pallbearers. The family receives friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He was born Oct. 25, 1939, in Bagwell, a son of Alva Franklin and Hazel Laverne McCord Bettis. He attended school at Pecan Gap. He was an electrical contractor in Paris. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church. On May 29, 1961, he married Neva Nell Sheer at Sulphur Springs. Survivors include his wife, Neva Bettis of Paris; a daughter, Debra Cook of Forney; a son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Lela Bettis of Wichita Falls; a grandson, Roy Glen Graham, who lived and worked with his grandfather and continues to live with his grandmother in Paris; a granddaughter, Amanda Graham of Forney; a granddaughter, Heather Strickland of Chickasaw, Ala.; and a grandson, Brian Bass of Wichita Falls; and great-grandchildren Logan Bass, Reagan Strickland and Emily Strickland. He is also survived by two brothers, Lynn and Alvie Royce Bettis; two sisters Myrtle McCool and Hazel Stanley; sisters-in-law, Chris Kauffman, Faye Garrett, Delores Edwards and Jane Sheer; and a brother-in-law, J. D. Sheer. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Doris Edelhauser and Brenda Wilks; two brothers, Alva Franklin Bettis Jr. and Bob Bettis; and father and mother-in-law, Roy & Geneva Sheer.
