THE PARIS NEWS, Jan. 22, 2006: “James Burnett, 87, of Paris died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, in Heritage Care Center. Graveside services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, in Knights of Honor Cemetery in Blossom with the Rev. John Brown and Russell Kersey officiating. Gene Roden’s Sons Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements. His body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home. He was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Red River County, the son of John W. and Lela Self Burnett. He attended schools in Red River County. He married Henri Adams, who preceded him in death in 1966. He later married Dorthy ‘Dot’ Nix, who preceded him in death in 2004. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army attached to General Patton’s tank brigade. He retired from Southland Corp., parent company of Oak Farms, with more than 25 years of service. He was a member of Ramseur Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Black. Survivors include his brothers, Thomas Burnett of Blossom and George Burnett and wife, Odessa, of Abernathy; special friend, Virginia Utz; and numerous nieces and nephews.“
